Overview
The Vascular Surgery Department at Sunshine Hospitals offers complete, harmonized surgical and non-surgical care for all non-cardiac vascular diseases (including endovascular and open surgical repair). The department is ably supported by a state-of-the-art laboratory that enables accurate diagnostic testing and investigations of vascular insufficiency disease.
A vascular surgeon is available Monday through Friday and is also on call 24 hours a day for emergencies. Same day appointments can be arranged for cases considered urgent. Treatment begins with patients undergoing a comprehensive evaluation by a vascular surgeon to affirm or ensure the diagnosis, to find out the degree and places of blockage, and recognize or rule out further complicating medical issues. Vascular ultrasound and duplex scanning which are modes of non-invasive testing are utilized for initial assessment and patient monitoring at a later stage. A conservative approach to care is embraced beginning with non-invasive treatments and lifestyles and timely monitoring of the condition. Surgical intervention is always the last resort at Sunshine. Surgical revascularization is attained with the use of synthetic grafts, vein grafts and endarterectomy.
